Petaling Jaya — Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad launch a new book Capturing Hope: The Struggle Continues For A New Malaysia on Sunday (Dec 12), but managed to infuriate some and puzzle others in a comment he made connecting chopsticks and national identity.

“They (Chinese) have not adopted the Malaysian way of eating food. They retained the chopstick, which is an identity from China, not Malaysia, and many other things.”

CPF Board responds to TISG’s 2019 story about 71-year-old man who was jobless & homeless

Singapore — The Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board published a social media post in reaction to a TISG story about an elderly man who had been jobless and homeless.

“A 71-year-old Singaporean was allegedly left homeless when he lost his job, even though he had S$67,000 in his Central Provident Fund (CPF) account, since he only receives a S$425 monthly payout from the CPF Board,” read the article, which was first published in 2019.

HDB: Sengkang woman fills lift landing area with own belongings past 3 years, only 1m space to pass

Singapore — One Sengkang woman has taken over the lift landing outside her HDB unit for three whole years, filling it with stacks of belongings and causing concern of a potential fire hazard, which her neighbours have complained about.

The Town Council has repeatedly told her to clear the area, putting up warning notices for the woman, who lives at Block 228B Compassvale Walk, to comply with. However, after a few days, the clutter returns.

SGH asks public not speculate about nurse’s death, but online concern over healthcare workers’ wellbeing continues

Singapore — In the wake of a Malaysian nurse’s recent death, Singapore General Hospital, where Ms Karunyah Paskaran had worked, issued a statement asking the public to not speculate about her demise.

Ms Paskaran was identified as the nurse who died by suicide, as was recounted in an earlier report.

All S’porean households to receive S$100 CDC vouchers digitally, can be used at hawkers and heartland merchants

Singapore — On Monday (Dec 13), Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong launched the financial scheme providing S$130 million worth of Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers to all Singaporean Households.

The nationwide CDC vouchers scheme is part of a S$900 million Household Support Package announced in the 2021 Budget, said the CDC in a press release.
