Hospital group now offers $12,000 “finder’s fee” for experienced nurses to join due to healthcare workers’ shortage

Singapore — Earlier this month, Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary alluded to a shortage of healthcare workers in a ministerial statement, where he noted a rising rate of resignations among both local and foreign healthcare workers.

He noted that about 1,500 healthcare workers had resigned between January and June of this year.

Man acquitted of molesting teenage girl while she was undergoing hypnotherapy

Singapore — A man accused of molesting a 17-year-old girl during a hypnotherapy session was given a discharge accounting to an acquittal.

This means he cannot be charged again with the same offence. District Judge John Ng granted the discharge on Monday to Sreekamal Asante Parambil Kalesan.

100-plus people share 2 toilets at quarantine centre, alarming conditions highlighted

Singapore — Concerned about the hygiene situation at a Covid-19 quarantine centre in Ang Mo Kio, an individual alerted The Independent Singapore (TISG) that there were only two toilets for the more than 100 people said to be staying there.

The person, who did not want to be named, said that a worker at their factory tested positive for Covid-19 after taking a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test.

Ong Ye Kung: High vaccination rate, rising natural immunity, may shield Singapore from COVID surges

Singapore — First, a good word from the Health Minister Ong Ye Kung:

“One of the highest vaccination rates in the world and growing natural immunity could protect Singapore from a Covid-19 resurgence like that currently engulfing Europe and the US, even if another wave hits as expected,” the minister told the Asia Summit on Global Health on Wednesday in Hong Kong.

Fined 15 times for driving offences since 2000, motorist finally gets suspended after knocking down motorcyclist, who suffered fractured hip & broken wrist

Singapore — “There is no way of running away from this. You have a very poor driving record,” the judge told motorist Wu Heng Swee on his latest driving offence.

You can say that again! Since 2000, Wu has committed some 15 driving-related offences, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Yee Jia Rong, who listed them in court.
