Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot is in talks to portray the Evil Queen in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White, an insider close to the project confirmed to Variety. 

She will star opposite West Side Story breakout Rachel Zegler who was cast as Snow White in June. Gadot is primarily known for her heroic work in DC’s Wonder Woman Franchise and her turn as the Evil Queen will give her a chance to show a more wicked side to her oeuvre, as reported by Reuters via The Star.

After becoming of Snow White’s beauty, the Evil Queen attempts to trick the princess into eating a poisoned apple in the timeless fairytale that became Disney’s first animated feature in 1937. The villain also speaks the famous line: “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”

Set to direct the untitled adaptation is Marc Webb who is best known for helming The Amazing Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield and 500 Days of Summer. The producer of the film will be Marc Platt while songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will write new music for the film. Production is expected to begin in 2022.

Since 2016 Disney has been developing a live-action Snow White. Other remakes currently in the works include The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey, Pinocchio with Tom Hanks and Lilo And Stitch directed by Jon M. Chu.

Snow White is based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale and it follows an orphaned princess living with her Evil Queen stepmother who attempts to poison her. With the help of seven dwarfs, Snow White escapes the queen and eventually finds love, living happily ever after.

Born on April 30, 1985, Gal Gadot-Varsano is an Israeli actress and model. At age 18, she was crowned Miss Israel 2004. She then served two years in the Israel Defense Forces as a soldier, whereafter she began studying at the IDC Herzliya college, while building her modelling and acting careers./TISG
