Singapore – On February 28, Laurence Pang who plays Tong Ah Biao from Channel 5’s Tanglin posted how he was ‘very disappointed’ with Changi General Hospital for not being able to find out the cause for his severe chest pains.
Through a Facebook post, the Singaporean actor wrote about his experience.
According to Mr. Pang, he has been experiencing chest pains for many months now. Last January, he was woken up in the middle of the night due to severe chest pain. He was rushed to CGH ER, spent the whole night there under observation yet got negative results.
He was referred to the hospital’s Cardiac Clinic for a second opinion the following week. Still, they found nothing. From there, he was recommended to take a treadmill and ECG test but since they were “fully-booked,” he had to wait until March for an appointment. Mr. Pang, who was already going through severe pain, had to wait two more months for another test that could most probably yield more negative results.
The week prior to his post, on February 19, he had another attack of chest pain; however, this time he chose to go to National University Hospital (NUH) instead. He was placed under observation, given a cardiac specialist, went through some tests and finally found out the problem. The veteran actor found out that he already had two blocked arteries, 80% and 90% blocked, and had to seek immediate medical procedure.
After his angioplasty to widen the clogged arteries conducted that same afternoon, he was discharged the following day.
Mr. Pang wrote: “If I had gone back to Changi Gen Hospital, I don’t know what would have happened. What would they have done? Or kept me waiting again?
I don’t understand why the doctors in CGH could not find out what was the matter with me.”
Update:
On March 1, Mr. Pang commented an update on his post that went viral. It turns out that CGH has gotten wind of his concerns and that the hospital will be investigating on the matter.
