6-year-old orphan touched the hearts of many after parents died in car crash; more than 8,000 donors raised over $300,000 overnight
SINGAPORE: A 6-year-old boy became orphaned when both of his parents died in a car accident. This incident touched the hearts of many people, prompting them to give donations out of care for the young boy.
As reported by Shin Min Daily News, the family launched a fundraising campaign for the boy, and over 8,600 people offered their help in just one night, raising a total amount of more than $326,800.
It was stated that the parents died in a traffic accident that happened on Oct 29 on Tampines Avenue 12. The accident involved two cars and one motorcycle, and the couple riding the motorcycle also lost their lives, resulting in a triple tragedy. Unfortunately, the suspect fled from the accident and was eventually arrested with nine charges, including dangerous driving causing death, hit-and-run, driving without a license, and displaying a fake license plate.
Because of this incident, the boy’s aunt launched a fundraising campaign to provide financial support and security for the child’s growth.
“No amount of money can replace a parent's love. We cannot change what has happened, nor can we erase the pain of our relatives, but we can work together to ensure that children receive the support they need and the opportunities they deserve as they grow up,” the aunt declared.
She also indicated that the boy is being cared for by his mother’s family and that the family is working on fixing his legal guardianship arrangements. She remarked that all donations will be used for the boy’s daily life, education, medical care, and future needs.
“The family also plans to set up a dedicated savings account to properly safeguard the donations and ensure that the funds are used for the boy,” the aunt shared.
