Singapore — A vehicle trying to flee police apprehension was caught on camera knocking down a Traffic Police (TP) officer before speeding off again. Two individuals were arrested following the incident.

As there was a vehicle in front, the Mitsubishi had to slow down.

A TP officer on a motorcycle was soon spotted arriving behind the car.

However, the vehicle driver decided to reverse and change route, knocking down another TP officer that arrived at the scene.

It was reported that the police had arrested two men following the incident. They were initially stopped by authorities for inspection but decided to escape.

The driver, 37, fled the scene but was eventually apprehended after a manhunt operation, reported Straits Times.

Meanwhile, another passenger, 34, was arrested for using criminal force against a public servant. He is also suspected of committing drug-related offences.

The police officer knocked down sustained minor injuries but refused to be conveyed to the hospital for medical assistance.

Police investigations are ongoing.

“This is not the first time our dedicated Traffic Police officers are injured during the course of their work. They take the risk of their work in their stride and continue to patrol our roads to keep our roads safe,” said Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim in a Facebook post.

He had met the injured officer, Senior Staff Sergeant (SSSgt) Haidil Osman and wished him a speedy recovery.

ROADS.sg noted that avoiding any police roadblock would be classified as a serious offence. Anyone using a vehicle to put others at risk purposefully will be a jailable offence, it added./TISG
