Maid says her employer didn’t give her any food or money when they went on holiday, gave her additional chores with no off days for 2 consecutive Sundays

A foreign domestic worker took to social media alleging that when her employers went on a 5-day holiday, they did not leave her any food or money.

In the helper’s post on Facebook page FDW in Singapore (working conditions forum), the maid shared a photo of the additional list of chores her employer had given her. She wrote that in addition to her usual tasks, her employer had given her “so much task (sic) to do”.

Ng Eng Hen says Leong Mun Wai ‘twisted facts’ about new citizens enlisting for NS

 

In one contentious moment from the Parliamentary session on Tuesday (Aug 2), Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen and Progress Singapore Party’s Leong Mun Wai argued about the facts concerning new citizens who enlist in National Service, which is mandatory for all Singaporean males.

Dr Ng said that Mr Leong had made “misleading statements” concerning national service for new citizens.

Man rapes 14-year-old daughter several occasions while wife receives cancer treatment, sentenced 24 years jail with 24 strokes of the cane

A 44-year-old man was sentenced to 24 years imprisonment and the statutory maximum of 24 strokes of the cane on Monday (Aug 8) for raping his 14-year-old daughter while his wife received cancer treatment.

The man pleaded guilty to three counts of rape, while another eight counts of rape, molestation and sexual assault by penetration were considered during sentencing.

Leong Mun Wai on gov’t takeover of Singapore Sports Hub: ‘We have not gotten to the bottom of the issue’

On Aug 2, the Non-Constituency Member of Parliament asked why the government is “so generous to pay SGD 193.7 million a year to pay the private consortium (Sports Hub Pte Ltd) when the operating costs would cost about SGD 68 million.”

Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong answered him by saying, “It’s not about being generous, it’s about what the contract says.”

Inflation at a new level, takeaway container charge additional 10%

A notice of takeaway container charge, costing customers an additional ten per cent, got netizens talking that the containers used must be made of gold.

“Inflation at a new level 10 per cent,” wrote a Facebook page Complaint Singapore member on Monday (Aug 8).
