Singaporean urges fellow citizens to proudly display the national flag even if they are unhappy with the PAP

A Singaporean has urged his fellow citizens to proudly display the national flag outside their homes, even if they dislike the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP). In a recent post published on his Facebook page, Clement Puah Neo wrote:

“For someone who gave 30 years of his life including his whole youth in the service of Singapore I’m most saddened by the views of some netizens who expressed disdain for the national flag.”

Sharing that many of these people seem to equate the PAP with Singapore and the national flag, Mr Neo asserted that this is an incorrect view. He advised: “Firstly our loyalty to the country of our birth must be separated from our unhappiness with the PAP, unless we agree with LKY’s view that Singapore = PAP!”

He added that many of those who disagree with the PAP government’s policies and actions do so “because we love Singapore and desire the best for Singapore and all true blue Singaporeans.”

Asserting that their criticism of PAP policies “demonstrates our patriotism to Singapore,” Mr Neo said: “Thus I urge all patriotic Singaporeans to be proud to display the national flag during our National Day celebrations. And let’s leverage on our unity in loving Singapore to vote out the PAP who is the cause for our unhappiness!”

Mr Neo later edited his post to urge the PAP government to stop spending national resources “on tracking and monitoring the activities of alternative voices.” He added: “Surely with the expertise and experience of the people in the security agencies it cannot be too difficult to distinguish between patriotic alternative voices and anti-national elements!”
