Planning to go to Malaysia and back for the long weekend? Travellers are advised of heavy traffic across the Singapore–Malaysia land border, which was confirmed by the snaking queues at the Woodlands Checkpoint bus stop.
Malaysian workers in Singapore heading home or Singaporeans planning to visit Johor Bahru had to stand in congested lines before reaching their destination.
It was reported that crowds began forming on Thursday (April 14) and continued until Good Friday.
Singapore–Malaysia Border Crossers(MSBC) 马新过境者 Facebook page member Wei Ern gave a glimpse of the passengers waiting in line.
By Thursday night, the queues stretched onto the pavement leading up to the checkpoint.
SMRT posted an announcement that due to overcrowding along Woodlands Centre Road, bus services 178, 903, 911, 912 and 912B will temporarily skip bus stop no. 46069 (Woodlands Train Checkpoint).
The bus services at the bus stop resumed at 11:20 pm.
However, come the following morning, more queues formed at the bus stop. This time, passengers had to also deal with the rain.
Facebook page Singapore Atrium Sale also posted the traffic situation to enter JB via Woodlands Causeway and the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) from Singapore on Friday morning.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority announced that heavy departure traffic at Woodlands Checkpoints subsided by lunchtime on Friday, although motorists are advised to check with the One Motoring website before travelling.
“Best if Singapore customs could provide real-time camera so that those wanting to enter could monitor the queue and decide rather than adding to the queue to try their luck,” said Facebook user Zmy Mdy, referring to the bus stop.
“I think I ride bicycle over faster,” commented a netizen on the long queueing situation.
“Should build a tent along the queue line. At least can cover from the rain,” another netizen added. /TISG
