Darryl O’Young Sets Eyes on Another Victory at Singapore Grand Prix, Recalls 2008 Triumph

The inaugural Singapore Grand Prix holds a special place in Darryl O’Young’s heart as he won in one of the races that were held in 2008. Now he is back for more and is keen to add on to his victory in the TSS The Super Series at the Marina Bay Circuit next weekend.

Speaking at the Motul Community Gathering Event ahead of the race, Darryl O’Young spoke fondly of his passion for racing and goal for the upcoming race. O’Young will be racing in his Mercedes-AMG GT3 car for the Craft Bamboo team. The other driver from the team is Jefrrey Lee from Chinese Taipei.

“I was there at the inaugural Grand Prix in 2008 and to be able to win (Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia), it was amazing. It was an important time of my career as a young driver,” said Darryl O’Young.

“The goal for a racing driver is to win. Unfortunately, things don’t always go your way. So it is hard to say where we will end up. I always concentrate on doing things right and preparing well. My team always prepares my car well and I am focused on the race.”

“I am trained from a very young age and I became a professional driver and something I have been doing all my life. My dad also raced cars so they understood the sports better. I was lucky that when I started racing it was relatively safer compared to the 60s and 70s,” explained the Hong Kong driver.

“There is danger in any sport that you take part in. For racing I wouldn’t consider it any more dangerous than other sports where you might get physical, or more chance of bodily harm, or probably a concussion.”

At the event, the Craft Bamboo driver displayed the ever-warm and friendly character of his as he took time to mingle and chat with his fans. He also invited some of them to sit in his car and take photos with them.

The TSS The Super Series practice and qualifying sessions will be held on Friday, 30 Sep at 2.30 pm and 3.45 pm respectively. The first race is scheduled on Saturday, 1 Oct at 3.10 pm, and the second race the following day at the same time. /TISG
