Former President Donald Trump is ahead of President Joe Biden in four states according to a poll by the New York Times and Siena College shows.
In Nevada, Trump has 52% support over Biden’s 41%. He is also ahead in Georgia at 49 to 43%.
In Arizona Trump leads with 49% to Biden’s 44%. In Michigan Trump holds a five-point lead with 48% to 43%. Primary voting however does not begin till next year so this is just an indication.
However one thing is clear, Trump holds the popular vote among Republicans and Biden among the Democrats. The poll results do not bode well for Biden seeing that Trump is still hugely popular despite facing 91 criminal charges with four indictments.
On November 5, Biden campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz in an interview with CNN minimized the results saying that predictions at this stage were not much of an indicator of things as things can look different in a year.
What the new poll means
“Coming off those historic (2022) midterms, President Biden’s campaign is hard at work reaching and mobilizing our diverse, winning coalition of voters one year out on the choice between our winning, popular agenda and MAGA Republicans’ unpopular extremism. We’ll win in 2024 by putting our heads down and doing the work, not fretting about a poll,” said Munoz.
Even in a state like Pennsylvania which Trump won in 2016 but Biden won over in 2020, Trump is ahead at 48% to 44% by Biden.
One voter by the name of Spencer Weiss told CNN; “The world is falling apart under Biden. I would much rather see somebody that I feel can be a positive role model leader for the country. But at least I think Trump has his wits about him.
Research also shows that the voters in the above states trust Trump when it comes to the economy, immigration, national security and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict while they trust Biden on the issue of abortion.
