Jewel Ong, ranted on Facebook group, Complaint Singapore as she and her brother saw a floating insect on their bowl of porridge when they ate at Congee Legend Hotpot last February 23.

Ms Ong stated that she always see people sharing how they see cockroaches and pests on their food, but she never thought that she herself would experience it first-hand. They’ve been regular customers of the Congee Legend Hotpot, but after this incident, things will change.

They were having the signature dish, the Prawn Porridge, and upon finishing up their meal, they saw the floating insect in the Prawn porridge.

Ms Ong expressed her disgust, “Imagine how long has this little fella been in our hotpot?! We immediately informed the staff and he said he will call his boss.”

The staff came back to them and said their boss is not picking up their call and that the best he can do now is to not charge them for the meal they had just eaten.

Ms Ong and her brother figured out that not much could be resolved then, so they packed up and left their number with the staff. The staff promised them that their boss would get in touch, but for more than three days, the boss has yet to give them a call.

She said, “So fast forward to today, I have yet to receive any call from said boss. I gave them more than enough time to go through the cctv footage if needed and was expecting them to call me within 3 days since the incident.”

Disappointed, Ms Ong said, “This just shows how irresponsible this store is and how bad their service recovery is..”

She then surveyed the Facebook group on what course of action is best to take from there.

Netizens expressed their disgust and advised her to report the case to the National Environment Agency. In our correspondence with Ms Ong, she updated us that she has already reported the case to Singapore Food Agency, and that they are now investigating this matter further.
