A cow dubbed “Mr Trump” valued at RM20,000 became the attraction at a farmers exhibition in the state of Kelantan on Saturday.
Mr Trump is the one and only such cow in Malaysia says Nasrul Saat, a farm manager who spoke to the media at the Kelantan Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen’s Day at Pantai Bisikan Bayu.
He told the local news agency Bernama the cow is an American Gray Brahman, weighs over one tonne and was brought in from the United States through Thailand.
Mr Nasrul says the cow was showcased to inform the public that they also can breed it commercially at home.
It is customary for farmers in the region to rear animals in enclosures in the vicinity of their homes.
People were amazed at the size and height of the cow.
Many said they have only seen such an animal on television and this was the first time they have seen it live.
It is possible to breed the cow in Malaysia because it is heat resistant.
The Brahman is an American breed of zebuine beef cattle bred in the United States from 1885 onwards. It originates from India mostly.
But in the US, it was imported gradually over the years from the United Kingdom, India and Brazil.
From the US, it is exported to many parts of the world particularly to the tropics.
The cow can also be found in Australia but it appears this is a rare occasion it is imported to Malaysia directly from the USA.
According to the American Brahman Breeders Association, this breed can tolerate heat and easy to manage.
“The Brahman female and her offspring, the queens of cow country, are in high demand by cattlemen around the globe,” says the association. -/TISG
