6 years ago, he couldn’t even pay $6 for his daughter’s school fees — now he’s the CEO of leading startup in smart cleaning technology

 

“When I realised that my bank account had insufficient funds to pay for my daughter’s school fees of $6, it was truly a wakeup call. That was when I realised it was time to snap out of it and fulfil my role as the head of the family,” said Jonathan Quek, CEO of Globotix at the time of his rude awakening.

In the early 2010s, before Jonathan Quek became the founder and CEO of Globotix, he had invested all of his savings into a failing educational technology platform that unfortunately had flopped. He eventually slipped into depression and spent his subsequent months in a funk.

One somehow imagines the kitchens of the chain – now numbering 10 eateries, according to the listing online –  momentarily hushed as Mr Teo, 61, made his exit.

Nagaenthran’s fate to be decided by Court of Appeal in 4 days, Nov 30

Singapore — The fate of convicted drug trafficker Nagaenthran K. Dharmalingam will be decided next Tuesday (Nov 30), says his family.

Nagaenthran, 33, whose case has been in the international spotlight for some weeks now, had originally been scheduled to hang on Nov 10.

China national jailed for acting as a lookout for two PRC overstayers engaged in vice activities

Singapore — Feng Xiaoming was the caretaker of a residence in Jurong West when he not only let two women stay there but acted as a lookout for the women who were engaged in vice activities.

All three are from China. The women, Dong Yang and Xie Xiying, had overstayed their visas and Feng, 34, who was here on a work pass, helped them to dodge detection until he was arrested and jailed.

100-plus people share 2 toilets at quarantine centre, alarming conditions highlighted

Singapore — Concerned about the hygiene situation at a Covid-19 quarantine centre in Ang Mo Kio, an individual alerted The Independent Singapore (TISG) that there were only two toilets for the more than 100 people said to be staying there.

The person, who did not want to be named, said that a worker at their factory tested positive for Covid-19 after taking a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test.
