Mark Lee’s tears made co-actor cry as well — why is “King of Musang King” an emotional film?

Mark Lee, a Singaporean comedian and actor, made a co-worker tear up because of his powerful and intense crying scene in the new film King of Musang King.

The 2023 Lunar New Year film directed by Jack Neo, King of Musang King, has recently started its production with its movie shootings. This is a story that revolves around family, love, and friendship. Although the movie is set to be in the comedy genre, there was a specific scene wherein Henry Thia – one of the cast – was brought to tears because of Mark Lee’s impressive acting.

This specific scene was when Mark Lee cries and begs his wife in the film. It was very touching that Henry said he can’t stop himself from crying as well.

Mark Lee portrays a character with an abandoned Malaysian wife (played by Yeo Yann Yann) and a childhood friend (played by Jack Neo).

Aside from tears, Mark Lee and Henry Thia staged a big fighting scene. As love rivals in the film, both actors worked hard to complete their fight – which they spent two nights preparing. During the shoot itself, Mark and Henry indeed kicked and fought. It took 7-8 takes for the director to be satisfied with the very cool shots.

King of Musang King displays the life of a wife (Yeo Yann Yann) abandoned by her husband, who continues to run a durian plantation left by her father while doing her best to raise three children. After twenty years, her husband (Mark Lee) went back to the plantation and somehow rekindled his romantic relationship with his wife.

The director really focused the narrative of the movie on the fruit Durian – a Southeast Asian fruit that people either love or hate.

The movie location is set to be in Singapore and Malaysia – where scenes from a real durian plantation will be shown. Detailed looks at how the durian farmers work will be prominent in the movie to express how they grow high-quality produce of this one-of-a-kind fruit.
