As terrible as it sounds, a man who once won a $10 million lottery is now in jail for the murder of his girlfriend.

He first made the headlines with the lottery win, which boosted his image and made him one of the crazy rich Americans around. But his fame has lasted only a few years. He is now making the headlines again, but for all the wrong reasons.

According to The News & Observer, when he won the lottery, Michael Hill, 54, told local news outlets at the time that he had initially purchased a losing scratch-off ticket before moving on to a second scratch-off game.

He discovered his ‘life-changing’ victory when he examined his ticket and found that he had won.

‘I saw the one and then the zero and it still didn’t hit me.’ ‘But then I noticed the “M.” My heart sank to my toes, and I gasped for air.’

But he was gasping for more air when he received the life sentencing for the murder of Keonna Graham, his girlfriend of over a year, back in 2020.

He was sentenced, on Friday last, to life without the possibility of parole in the murder of Graham.

He confessed to the murder, telling police he shot 24-year-old Graham in the back of the head while she slept after he found out she was texting other men while she was with him.

The single gunshot wound to the back of the head was enough to kill Graham. She was found by a maid inside a hotel room at the SureStay in Shallotte, North Carolina in July of 2020.

Hill was employed at a nuclear power facility when he won the jackpot. In July 2020, at the age of 52, he was arrested for Graham’s murder, CBS News reported.

Prosecutors said surveillance footage from the hotel proved Hill was the only person in the room with Graham, according to a news release from the 15th Prosecutorial District of North Carolina.
