On Monday, July 15, news surfaced that Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V, or Malaysia’s former Agong, has apparently divorced his Russian beauty queen bride Oksana Voevodina after a fleeting romance, as reported by Astro Awani.

The divorce was reportedly filed in Singapore on June 22, with the motion being granted by Shariah Courts on July 1.

The timeline is puzzling as the lovely Sultana took to her Instagram account on June 19 to post this beautiful photo of the royal couple, accompanied by the beginning part of their love story:

On July 6, Oksana posted several photos, again on her Instagram, to recount the next part of their story:

While all seemed well between the loved-up royal couple, divorce rumours were already swirling around as early as January of this year, according to this article on Mirror UK. Russian tabloids were also spreading similar stories around, but those close to the 25-year-old Russian model denied their veracity.

The news confused the Malaysian public, as word of Sultan Muhammad V’s nuptials only made local headlines in late 2018, although it would be weeks before anything was confirmed or announced by the government or the palace. The Sultan himself was on a three-month leave of absence from his duties, apparently for medical reasons, but it seems that he also got married in Moscow during that time frame.

Early this year, Muhammad abdicated from his role as Agong, and since then, the couple had been fairly quiet, though the birth of their baby boy was announced sometime in May on social media platforms.

Reports say that the couple has been granted a divorce called a triple talak, a serious form of Islamic divorce where the talak, which is the pronouncement of divorce, is repeated three times and sought out after all attempts at peace and reconciliation are exhausted.

Was their magical love story too good to be true? Do real-life fairy tales like theirs truly exist? What really happened between the royal couple?

While there have been no official reports issued on the divorce of the former Agong and the Russian beauty queen from the palace or the government, there is also currently nothing on Oksana’s Instagram account on the matter. I suppose we have to wait and see what happens. /TISG
