The adopted son of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Maddox Jolie-Pitt just began his new chapter in South Korea studying at Yonsei University in Seoul.

The 18-year-old is studying biochemistry and he was dropped of by his mother for his first year earlier this summer.

His father was absent.

Maddox said he didn’t know “what’s happening,” when asked if Pitt will visit him at his university.

The father and son have a tense relationship after an alleged argument on a private jet in 2015 that resulted in a physical altercation.

According to TMZ, the fight was “verbally abusive and physical” and a source told US Weekly that Pitt, revealed that he was battling alcoholism and was “drunk” at the time.

Netizens speculated that the fight with Maddox became the catalyst for Pitt and Jolie’s eventual divorce.

An anonymous call was made to the LA County Department of Children and Family Services and an investigation was opened into the matter, according to The Sun.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Pitt was eventually cleared of child abuse.

In Touch showed a video in which Maddox was asked if his father would make a trip to see him at university in which he responded, “Um, I don’t know about that, what’s happening.”

He was then asked if his relationship with Pitt was “over” by the paparazzo.

Maddox responded, “Whatever happens, happens.”

Pitt is currently close enough to visit Maddox, as the star landed in Tokyo on Wednesday. Tokyo is roughly two and a half hours away from Seoul by plane.

Jolie dropped off Maddox at university earlier this year and she told Entertainment Tonight that she had “an ‘embarrass your children’ ugly cry” as she left him to start his new life in Seoul. Maddox is her eldest son and the first of the Jolie-Pitt clan to go to university, alongside his younger siblings Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, Pax and Knox.

“I also, just at some point, had the big [sun]glasses and the amount of times I turned and waved,” she continued, “I do know it was the one moment in my life I think I turned around six times before the airport just … and he sweetly stayed and kept waving, knowing that I was going to keep turning around. You could feel he knew he couldn’t leave.”
