Dear Editor,
I read with sadness and puzzlement of the TODAY’s reports, “Man drives over security guard’s foot at Balestier condo after being denied entry, says union” and “BMW driver charged with fracturing security officer’s wrist after pushing him at United Square mall” (July 15 & April 27 respectively).

Any reader who reads these reports will ask:

Why the security officers should be treated in this unacceptable manner? Is it because their careers are perceived as inferior in social status?

Why can’t the security officers be entitled to or granted equal, basic respect and dignity?

What’s wrong with undertaking this profession and performing their entrusted duties and responsibilities?

Is it because some people who live in this high-paced, pressurised and highly competitive cosmopolitan city are unable to control their emotions and behaviours?
