Kate Moss testified in the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial on May 25, appearing on video for a brief three minutes. She testified as a rebuttal witness on Depp’s behalf.
Moss in her three minute video testimony dispelled rumours that Depp had pushed her down a flight of steps when they were dating in the 1990’s.
The issue had arisen during Heard’s earlier testimony when Heard said she remembered a 2015 fight near a staircase in which she said she had hit Depp in the face out of fear he would hurt her sister, Whitney Heard Henriquez.
Heard said at that point she was “instantly” reminded of Kate Moss. Although Moss has never accused Depp of abuse while they were dating, Heard claimed during their 2020 UK trial that two people told her that Depp had pushed Moss down the stairs.
The supermodel who testified from her home in Gloucestershire in the UK told the court in Virginia that she and Depp had been in a romantic relationship from 1994 to 1998.
Depp’s lawyer Benjamin Chew questioned Moss on whether anything had occurred while they were on holiday at the GoldenEye resort in Jamaica.
“We were leaving the room, and Johnny left the room before I did and there had been a rainstorm. As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and hurt my back,” Moss told the court via video feed.
“I screamed because I didn’t know what had happened to me and I was in pain. He came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention,” she added.
Moss said that Depp did not in fact push her down the stairs and when further questioned if this had occurred at anytime Moss said, “No”.
”He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs, no,” Moss told the court.
Heard’s lawyers did not cross-examine the 48-year-old supermodel.
Depp is suing Heard for $50m for libel over an op-ed article published in 2018 describing herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. He has denied ever hitting or assaulting Heard.
Heard on the other hand has said that there have been more than a dozen instances of physical abuse and is counter-suing her ex-husband Depp for $100m.
