Jaspers Lai finds comfort in listening to his mother’s nagging through his smart home voice-activated device

Despite his independence, the 35-year-old Malaysian-born Singaporean actor opted to bring his mother’s nagging into his new home.

Jaspers Lai revealed that he has a smart home device that is specifically programmed to say the things his mother will say to him. He shared this very interesting news in one of the episodes of Mediacorp’s #JustSwipeLah, particularly hosted by Seow Sin Nee.

He admitted that he is very lazy and forgetful, which was why he designed his entire home to be a Smart Home – full of modern technology.

In this episode, he gave an example as to how his home reacts when he is about to leave. With one mention that he is leaving, the house kind of listened to his words and immediately lowers the blinds of his windows.

Furthermore, the more exciting part was when a voice suddenly called out to say “Go out, go out, go out, every day go out, don’t come back so late, bye, have a good day” as if it was his own mother saying it.

But that’s not all, he mentioned that when he returns home, the lights immediately turn on, the blinds rise up, music begins to play and the voice will call out to him again to say “What time already ah?”

In his bedroom, he also hears the voice as a reminder to wake up and sleep at night. Such lines are “What time already, now then you sleep?” and “What time already, now then you wake up?”. Undoubtedly, he does not feel alone, with his “mother’s voice” devices greeting him when he wakes and falls asleep.

Regardless of how quirky his smart home is, the actor said that he included these technologies for good reasons.

He stated that besides his laziness and forgetfulness, the 35-year-old also misses his home with his mother in it, especially when he is alone.

Jaspers Lai also has multiple posters lining his walls, including his Golden Horse Award-winning film, Number 1, signed by the cast of the show. His home displays a trophy rack of his memorabilia all throughout his career as well – just like his Golden Horse Awards for Best Makeup and Costume Design.

“I’m someone who likes to collect things… I always treasure every step that I take and the work that I do” he exclaimed.

The episode of #JustSwipeLah is available to watch on Mediacorp’s Entertainment YouTube channel.
