Hollywood — It’s hardly worth a yawn when two personalities in the entertainment industry split up.

But when singer/rapper Aaron Carter announced on Nov 30 that he had split with his fiancée, actor Melanie Martin, even non-fans more than perked up a little.

Martin happens to be the mother of their son, Prince Lyric Carter, who was born on Nov 22 by emergency caesarean section. There seems to be a Michael Jackson connection. The late MJ, once known as the King of Pop, is said to have called Aaron “the Prince of pop”.

Aaron Carter, 33, is estranged from his twin sister Angel and their even more famous brother, Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter. In 2019, a Los Angeles judge allowed Nick and Angel a restraining order against Aaron, which barred him from coming near them or their family members.

On Nov 30, Carter took to Twitter to announce that he and Martin had parted ways, apparently because she had been in touch with Angel, and they had “ruined everything” for him.

Family relations seem to have been bumpy even before that. In a separate tweet, Carter claimed that his family and Martin had been lying to him the whole time and that they tried to put him in prison and have him put under a conservatorship.

Carter now describes himself as a single father. Martin, he claimed, has been lying to him for two years, that is since they started dating in January 2020.

He went on Instagram Live on Tuesday to share a clip that repeatedly shows Martin, holding a knife and going down the stairs, with Angel following behind her.

That seems to have prompted comments concerning custody of Carter’s newborn son, and at one point, someone started the hashtag #FREEAARON. That echoes the #FreeBritney campaign that helped end Britney Spears’ conservatorship which had lasted from 2008 till Nov 12.

Carter also played music during the live stream session. He was on and offline for a few hours. Later on, he was seen doing some gardening.

During Instagram Live, he received a phone call from another sister, B.J., and later on, his mother also joined in the call to offer him advice. Midway through the call, he went offline.

Carter has had issues with addiction and legal troubles. His relationship with Martin has been a rollercoaster ride. Martin’s Instagram account seems to have been deleted. /TISG
