Huang Biren’s image misused in fake ads for tummy-control panties

Singapore — 52-year-old Singaporean actress has been a victim of fake ads. She recently spoke out against fake ads for tummy-control underwear which used her name and photo.

On Sept 12, Huang wrote on Instagram saying: “It’s fake. Please help inform your friends and contacts to avoid them being tricked.”

The actress also shared a screenshot of the fake ad which had been posted with photos of her taken from her Instagram account together with product shots of the underwear, as reported by Straits Times.

The additional caption implied that fellow actress Chen Liping, simply named Liping in the ad, had sent them to her. In the comments section, Huang’s followers wrote to say that they had reported the fake ad.

Her celebrity pal Thomas Ong jokingly commented: “Sister, when did you start selling this?”

She replied: “Aiyoh. Brother, your powers of comprehension are starting to show signs of deterioration.”

Referring to a photo, the 52-year-old had recently posted at the wheel of a boat, she added: “Concentrate on steering your boat, don’t be distracted. I’m waiting for you to buy me something delicious to eat.”

Born Mar 7, 1969, Huang Biren is a Singaporean actress best known for appearing in numerous MediaCorp Channel 8 television dramas. She was prominently a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 1988 to 2008, but continues to film on an ad-hoc basis.

Huang left Mediacorp on 30 Jun 2008, due to the new contract terms offered to her and she also wanted to spend more time with her family, especially her 5-month-old infant girl.

Huang joined the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (now MediaCorp) in 1988 after completing its Professional Drama Performers’ Training course. She was due to study at Hawaii Pacific University in the United States but chose to go into acting when SBC offered her a contract, much to the initial disappointment of her parents.

Having been in the industry for 10 years, Huang won her first Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes award in Star Awards 1997. /TISG
