temasek trust

Singapore — On Thursday (Oct 1), the same day Madam Ho Ching, the wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, retired from her position as CEO of Temasek Foundation, Temasek Trust announced that she had been appointed to its Board of Directors.

Moreover, on April 1, 2022, Mdm Ho will succeed the current chair, Mr S Dhanabalan, to head the Board.

Temasek Trust, which was established in 2007, “is a steward of philanthropic endowments and gifts.” It provides governance and financial oversight of the firm’s philanthropic endowments for Temasek Foundation, Stewardship Asia Centre and Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory.

Earlier this year, Temasek Holdings announced Mdm Ho’s retirement, effective Oct 1. It announced on Feb 9 that she would be succeeded as Chief Executive Officer and executive director by Mr Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, the CEO of Temasek International (TI), the firm’s investment arm.

“She has been very active, working over the years to identify various potential successors both inside and outside of Temasek,” said Temasek Holdings chairman Lim Boon Heng about Mdm Ho.

The news of Mdm Ho’s appointment to the Board of Temasek Trust was made public in a press release on Sept 30, which also said that Mr Dhanabalan would remain on the Board and be designated Chairman Emeritus.

Mr Dhanabalan has served as Temasek Trust’s chair since Sept 2015.

Mr Benny Lim, Mr Teo Ming Kian, and Mr Tow Heng Tan have also been appointed as Directors with effect from Jan 1, 2022.

According to Mr S Dhanabalan, “Ho Ching has a deep and passionate commitment to so many community causes, and has been instrumental in Temasek’s own stewardship journey over the past two decades.

I see Ho Ching’s passion as an asset to Temasek Trust, as we embark on the next chapter of our journey as an Advocate, Catalyst and Investor, to drive the common good in Singapore, Asia and beyond. I am very happy to welcome her, and see it as the right time for me to begin to play more of an emeritus role, supporting Temasek Trust in a slightly different way in the future.”

As for Mdm Ho, she is quoted in the statement as saying, “I am very impressed by the remarkable progress that Temasek Trust has made since its founding over 10 years ago. Temasek Trust has enabled a steady and sustainable support for Temasek Foundation and other initiatives to deliver vitally important programmes in the communities in Singapore and around Asia.”

Under the leadership of Hock Kuan as CEO, supported by Dhana as Chairman, Temasek Trust has expanded its role, with the ambition of catalysing good principles of philanthropy across Asia, by learning from others and bringing people together.” /TISG
