Glitch in Singapore matrix? Beach Road building 2D optical illusion, flat as paper, not photoshop edit

Due to its sharp edges and trapezoid shape, The Gateway at Beach Road looks as flat as a sheet of paper from the right angle, creating a trippy view of the façade.

A TikTok user managed to capture the buildings’ façade from the intersection of Beach and Ophir Road, sharing his view with the online community.

The building’s sharp corners made it look flat against the sky from the TikTok user’s viewpoint.

“Damn solid,” said the netizen, commending the architect’s work.

Although some netizens commented on the video, suggesting that it was edited, another TikTok user uploaded a similar video of The Gateway a few hours later.

The TikTok user admitted that looking at the building made her feel like she was “losing her s**t.”

She wasn’t the only one. “My brain had to process that for 2 minutes straight,” said TikTok user Kieron.

“I think there’s a glitch in SG,” she added. “Save and reload your game. Rendering should work then,” quipped TikTok user RonF.

Meanwhile, others joked that the building’s design was great for the architect but not so much for engineers.

“An architect’s dream is an engineer’s nightmare,” said TikTok user Fast in a comment with over 28,300 likes. “Rip the engineer,” added another netizen.
