SINGAPORE: An online user recently took an issue to an online forum, sharing how a neighbour’s alleged DIY renovation project has been bothersome even on weekends.

“HDB guidelines for DIY reno during weekends,” read the heading of a thread created by a bothered neighbour on Reddit Singapore on Saturday (July 29). The resident shared how a neighbour’s alleged DIY home project is disturbing his peace… even on weekends.

“I know contractors for HDB renovations are not allowed to work over the weekends,” the post read. “But my neighbour’s reno has been going on for weeks even during weekends, and I suspect it’s a DIY so they are not regulated. That’s why no notice has been posted. We’ve been tolerating it during weekdays. But it’s Saturday 10 am right now. Do we still have to endure this?”

The resident turned to Singaporeans on the forum for advice. “Do DIY renovations slip through the loophole of no noisy contractors’ works during weekends?” the person asked. “If not, who can we contact? I know the police only handles cases after 10.30 pm.”

A handful of netizens responded to the post, sharing their two cents on such matters.

“General renovation allowed on Saturday,” said one. “Only hacking, and extensive drilling not allowed. Let’s put it this way, the faster they finish the faster you get your piece and quiet even on weekdays no?”

“If you have a problem, call your TC, let them deal with it,” said another.

To a third, such incidents are simply “part and parcel of living in an HDB.”

Still, a fourth said, “Imagine when the population here reaches 10M, lol. Have fun!”
