Cyclist with pillion rider swerves out of lane without looking along Balestier Road, collides with vehicle and scolds driver

Road users are advised to practice due care, such as ensuring the coast is clear before entering a lane, to avoid accidents.

A video of a cyclist with a pillion changing lanes recklessly, resulting in a collision, has gone viral, sparking another call from the public to heighten enforcement on cyclists.

The video was shared on Facebook page SG Road Vigilante on Sept 24; the caption noted the incident happened along Balestier Road.

The car with the camera caught the cyclist cutting across two lanes before entering the right-most lane.

Without stopping to check if a vehicle was passing by, the cyclist entered the lane just as a Chevrolet Orlando travelled by.

The cyclist and his companion crashed into the vehicle and fell on the road.

The cyclist was seen making gestures at the driver as if it was the latter’s fault.

Meanwhile, the driver steps out of the car to check up on the riders.

“It’s not the car’s fault; it’s the uncle’s fault. I saw, my camera caught it. It’s really not the car’s fault,” said a voice from the car, commenting on what just happened.

“Still the unaddressed inconsistency issue of non-qualified persons to use the road with qualified persons with qualified driving license,” noted Facebook user Henry Lim.

“First cyclists don’t have licence. No insurance and riding on a busy road, and worst, not observing traffic lights. If you notice, those delivery food on bicycles is the worst of all. I don’t know what traffic police going to do!” said Facebook user Tuck Meng Chan.

Others pointed out that such accidents involving cyclists would not bode well for motorists. “Lucky got this video to prove he’s (driver) innocent if not again driver’s fault,” said a netizen. “Thank you to this video owner for standing up for justice.”

“To the car which knocked the cyclists, don’t worry. If the law is truly fair and just, and with this video as evidence, the cyclists won’t get any compensation. Just a painful lesson for them, and hopefully others,” added Facebook user Hendratno Eunos. /TISG
