Cyclist at Jurong West fails to conform to red light, slammed by motorcyclist

Singapore — A cyclist that failed to stop at a red light along Jurong West got hit by a passing motorcyclist, resulting in another call by the public for stricter regulations.

Facebook page ROADS.sg uploaded a video on Monday (Oct 25) highlighting another errant cyclist disregarding road rules, resulting in an accident.

The incident, which happened on Oct 24 at 1:55 pm, showed an intersection along Jurong West.

Despite the red traffic lights, a cyclist was spotted crossing the street.

The motorcyclist also fell a few metres away after clipping the cyclist.

The cyclist was caught on camera picking up his bicycle while another vehicle passed.

In response to the video, members of the online community called for the same rules for motorists to be applied to cyclists.

“These videos surface daily, yet we still think our current regulations are enough. It’s inevitable. This time it’s a motorcycle, but the next time it’ll be a cement truck,” commented Facebook user Samuel Tan Jun Wei.

“Do we need to see a viral video of a cyclist literally smeared over the roads by a truck with a trail of blood before more can be done? Probably…(And hey, the cyclist only gets a $150 fine!),” he added.

“LTA (Land Transport Authority) can stop all cyclists (motorised or not) to push instead of speeding across traffic junctions,” said Facebook user Cherry Ng.

“Is either they knock Pedro’s or bring knock by incoming vehicles. For motorised, please fine them heavily if they don’t comply otherwise, they take it too lightly.” /TISG
