A customer took to social media with a complaint after a food stall attendant had allegedly refused to serve his wife, but his version of the story was challenged by a woman who had been there when the incident occurred.
“My wife Q in Blk 409 food hawker Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 for ordering a vegetarian curry mee Hoon. A stall assistance aunti who was wearing a white mask replied that didn’t have mee Hoon, so my wife changed curry with rice, she said that didn’t have rice, then she said that ‘I don’t want to sell to you’ and she called next person. This type of rude attitude is unacceptable please do not eat in this stall. Bad service.”
A long discussion thread followed the Sept 25 (Sunday) post of Mr Chua Michael on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page.
A woman named Tricia Tan commented on the post, saying she had been present when the poster’s wife interacted with the attendant.
Ms Tan wrote that she heard the Auntie say she only had noodle curry and that they don’t sell beehoon, and when the woman wanted white rice, the auntie said the stall only had chicken fragrant rice left.
The auntie allegedly said in Chinese to the woman, “
”She added that the woman left “almost immediately afterwards then auntie moved on to the next customer Cus there was a snaking q.”
Saying that her family is also in the Food and Beverage Industry, she explained that attendants at times want to be quick to not make people wait too long, and sometimes they speak “a little bit louder but not with bad intention.”
She added, “Not saying who is wrong or what. Just saying that in these kind of situation, I believe everyone is also trying their best. They are just trying to make ends meet also. Why sometimes cannot just give and take.”
Ms Tan wrote that people work hard to try to meet everyone’s demands, and asked readers to imagine how they would feel if this were done to them.
“When you at work u do your damn Best but then people still scold you and misunderstand you, how you feel?… When can the world be a better place?”
Other commenters also sprang to the attendant’s defence, saying that she had always given good service.
One commenter clarified that the auntie is not an attendant, but the owner of the stall.
Other commenters said they were glad Ms Tan had been there to “Shed a different light of the story.”
Some said that the attendant is actually “very friendly with good attitude.”
But others claimed the stall has “Really very bad service.”
Others called the complainer out for posting a photo of the auntie’s face, with one writing, “Because of a one-sided story you want to destroy her business? That’s vindictive.”
Others appealed to the complainer to talk to the stall owner personally rather than taking and posting her photo.
