Crane falls over at Universal Studios Singapore, MOM orders engineering firm involved cease all activities

A crawler crane being used for demolition works at Universal Studios Singapore on Saturday (Dec 3) toppled over as it was hoisting a steel structure.

Footage of the aftermath of the accident was posted on social media platforms Facebook and TikTok. “Crane toppled less than an hour ago at Sentosa,” wrote the netizen sharing a video on Facebook. The crane boom smashed through the worksite barricade and looked like an attraction in itself as people walked near or under the machinery.

According to a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) representative, the engineering firm involved, China Jingye Engineering Corporation Limited, has been instructed to “cease all lifting operations and demolition activities” at the site.

The company is also working with the authorities to recover the crane softly.

It was reported that the crane operator managed to climb out of the crane cabin when the accident happened. He sustained minor injuries to his face and received first-aid treatment.

“We are thoroughly reviewing the event, cooperating closely with the authorities and have stopped the contractor in possession of the site from any further site work while this review takes place,” said a Resorts World Sentosa spokesperson to Mothership.

It was confirmed that no guests or team members were injured from the incident. “The safety of our guests and team members remains our top priority,” the spokesperson added. /TISG
