CNB shares post about singer Aaron Carter’s death, says ‘Let us band together and work towards a #DrugFreeSG’

On Saturday (Nov 5) US singer and former child star Aaron Carter, 34, was found dead in a bathtub in his home. On Wednesday (Nov 9), the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) shared a link on its Facebook page to a CNA Lifestyle article from AP titled “Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter remembers his ‘baby brother’ Aaron Carter.”

CNB captioned its post with the following quote from the article: “‘My heart has been broken today. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded,’ wrote Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, brother of Aaron Carter who was found dead in his home recently. Aaron Carter had been struggling with substance abuse.”

“Drug abuse does not just affect abusers. The hidden victims, the ones who care for us, are affected too.

Let us band together and work towards a #DrugFreeSG.

Carter, the younger brother of Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, had first risen to fame at the age of seven, grew immensely popular worldwide for such songs as “I Want Candy” and “That’s How I Beat Shaq,” had been the front act for concerts of superstars Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys.

He was also a Disney talent and was featured in “Dancing With the Stars” as well as in a Broadway play earlier in his career.

Later on, as his fame waned, his substance abuse and mental health issues were reported in the news. He said publicly in 2019 that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

While the singer had a history of substance abuse, the official cause of his death has not yet been released. The LA Times reported on Nov 7 that toxicology results from the singer’s autopsy may take several weeks.

US authorities last checked Carter’s home in September, where they found no drugs. He had enrolled in rehab for the fifth time that month, in the hopes of regaining custody of his son.

The LA Times reported that evidence of medications and compressed air had been found in the master’s bedroom and bathroom of Carter’s house by investigators after his death.

Carter left behind an 11-month-old son, Prince, who was born to his ex-fiancee, Melanie Martin.

In 2012, Carter’s sister, Leslie, who has then 25 years old, died of a prescription drug overdose, leaving behind a 10-month-old daughter.

Carter said after Leslie’s death that he “would never overtake” medication. /TISG
