Singapore — Singaporean superstar JJ Lin was linked to rumours as the source of the new Covid-19 cluster in Putian city located in the Fujian province of China.
For two consecutive days, Sept 10 and 11, Putian city health authorities reported new cases of Covid-19, including a man who had returned to China from Singapore on Aug 4.
The man, identified as Lin X. Jie, soon got Chinese netizens speculating that he was JJ Lin due to the similarity in names.
JJ Lin’s Chinese name is Lin Junpei, and his ancestral home is in Fujian, claimed netizens who dug out the information, according to a Straits Times report.
However, the 40-year-old Mandopop singer refuted the claims indirectly by posting a photo of himself with some friends in Singapore.
In an Instagram post on Sept 10, Mr Lin shared a photo geotagged to Singapore.
“The night riders again!” he wrote in English and “Enjoying the time when we can go and cycle” was written in Chinese.

Then on Sept 11, Mr Lin posted another photo of himself wearing a face mask.
“I could do this all day,” he said in the caption in English and “Good health is the key to achieving the ideal state,” he added in Chinese.

Netizens commented on his post, urging others not to jump to conclusions.
Some also highlighted that Mr Lin posted a video of himself getting his second Covid-19 vaccine jab in Singapore on Aug 20. /TISG
