Food Junction @ Bugis Junction food court closed permanently ‘with great sadness’ after 26 years

Singapore — Yet another food and beverage establishment bites the dust, with the Bugis Junction food court closing down permanently after 26 years of operation.

“Dear Foodies, we had a good run at Bugis Junction,” wrote Food Junction Facebook page on Friday (Dec 3), announcing the closure.

“It’s with great sadness that Food Junction at Bugis Junction will be closed permanently.”

The establishment thanked patrons for their support through the years, adding that it was looking forward to serving customers in the other outlets soon.

“Head down to the nearest outlet at The Food Place by Food Junction, Raffles City, to savour on some of the local favourites,” the post added.

It was reported that since Bugis Junction was completed in 1995, the venue always had a food court area on the third floor.

With its chic decors and bright colours adorning the interiors, the venue drew in crowds for lunch and dinner.

The food court offered authentic local and international cuisine like Hao Jia Ban Mian & Fish Soup or Viet Taste Vietnamese, served by hawkers located under one roof.

The post did not clearly state the reason for the closure, although recent visits to the place highlighted the limitations on seating space available due to Covid-19 safe management measures.

In addition, there was no information provided on whether another food court operator will take over the area.

Food establishments found to be in violation of rules such as tables and chairs placed less than one metre apart are also penalised with a suspension of dine-in privileges.

Members of the online community also noted that the food there was more expensive than others.

“Their food prices are freaking expensive; rational people would rather eat elsewhere if they have a choice. Teach them a lesson for being too avaricious,” a netizen wrote at sgtalk.net.

“Cross over the road to Albert Centre hawker centre or those HDB coffee shops can get cheaper and tastier food,” added another netizen. /TISG
