Brooke Shields

Brooke Shields spoke about her seizure scare recently in an interview with Glamour magazine. Featured in the 2023 Women of the Year cover story she spoke about her attack which occurred just before her cabaret performance in New York City in September.

She said she was preparing for the show and drinking lots of water but had no idea that she was low in sodium. People around her kept asking her if she was ok and she guessed that she was starting to look odd that’s why. She was waiting for an Uber at the time. She walked to a corner outside and started to feel discombobulated and headed into nearby restaurant, L’Artusi.

“…I got to the sommelier who had just taken an hour to watch my run-through … Everything starts to go black. Then my hands drop to my side and I go headfirst into the wall. I was frothing at the mouth, totally blue and trying to swallow my tongue.

“The next thing I remember, I’m being loaded into an ambulance. I have oxygen on, And Bradly f…ing Cooper is sitting next to me holding my hand,” said the actress.

At the time she thought this is what death must look like.

“You wake up and Bradley Cooper’s going, ‘I’m going to the hospital with you Brooke, and he’s holding my hand. And I’m looking at my hand, I’m looking at Bradley Cooper’s hand in my hand, and I’m like, ‘This is odd and surreal.’”

Brooke Shields said that the sommelier had tried to contact her husband Chris Henry but got his assistant instead and Cooper had been nearby so he was contacted. At the hospital the doctors said that her brain was seizing and they had EEGs, catheters and IVs on standby. She was then put in the ICU and unfortunately contracted bronchitis from there.

In the final analysis it was found that the seizure was actually caused by low sodium as she had been drinking too much water. “I drowned myself. And if you don’t have enough sodium in your blood or urine in your body, you can have a seizure.”

She also told Glamour that when it comes to health she is more focused on keeping her organs healthy than trying to achieve any sort of body size. She says she is tired of feeling not skinny enough, it’s boring and a total waste of time.
