At least three fire engines deployed after thick smoke emerges at Ang Mo Kio MRT station

Thick smoke was seen emerging at Ang Mo Kio MRT station this afternoon. Photos circulating online show that the Singapore Civil Defence Force has deployed at least three fire engines to the scene and also show the smoke wafting outside while another entrance to the station is shut:

A spokesperson for SMRT has confirmed that the smoke arose from an escalator at the station which leads to an underground link to AMK Hub. The spokesman told reporters that “train services are not affected” and that there is “no danger to commuters”.

SMRT technicians are presently on-site as investigations are ongoing.
