On Monday (Sept 11), it was revealed that only one Certificate of Eligibility was to be issued to Madam Halimah Yacob.

As the only candidate to qualify for this year’s Reserved Presidential Elections, she is set to become Singapore’s first female President and the first Malay head of state in over 47 years.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced that she will be sworn in as the eighth President of Singapore on Thursday (Sept 14) at 6pm at the Istana.

However, many were clearly upset over losing their rights to vote for their next President. #NotMyPresident trended on Twitter and Facebook after the walkover was announced, with Singaporeans taking out their disappointment and frustrations online.

The same hashtag was also used by the Americans when Donald Trump won the elections to become the President of the United States last year.

On the other hand, there were also other individuals who stepped up to defend and congratulate Madam Halimah.
