Police have identified the body found at the pavement near Block 165A Teck Whye Crescent this morning as 35-year-old Mohammad Roslan Zaini.
Officers have also arrested a 48-year-old suspect, said to be Roslan’s housemate Rosli, in connection with the case which has been classified as a murder since the body was discovered with stab wounds to the chest. Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder may have occurred due to an ongoing dispute between the victim and the suspect.
A woman claiming to be Roslan’s girlfriend of three months, Azlin, told reporters that she had seen Roslan two days ago and that she found out about the Roslan’s death from his friend when she arrived at his flat this morning after hearing that he had been found “motionless.” She added:
“I understand that Roslan had a conflict with his housemate Rosli. I saw the housemate in custody in the police car.”
One of the residents residing in the 3rd floor of the block, a Mdm Hawa, told reporters earlier this morning:
“I was asleep and I heard arguing. I got up and that was when I heard the sound of people running down the staircase followed by more shouting.
“This is not the first time that I’ve heard fighting during the wee hours of the morning. So I went back to bed. But I am shocked when I saw the cordon when I got up later and heard that a body was found.”
Blood stains were spotted near the lift landing and police officers from Criminal Investigation Department and Jurong Police Division were seen collecting evidence at the block’s fourth floor which had been cordoned off by the police.
