The opposition, said to be in disarray and divided, is holding a series of rallies in Malaysia and this time around, they seem to be getting it right.

In Penang yesterday, the Pakatan Harapan leaders focused their talks on the rising cost of living, an issue that is bogging down the ruling coalition of Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The opposition leaders told the crowd that the root of all their economic problems stems from the 1MDB robbery.

PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar – who staged a live Facebook event today – said it was because of 1MDB that the government seems to lack funds.

She listed down the problems which she said were the result of the 1MDB scandal:

  1. Malaysians were forced to pay the GST which caused a raise in the cost of living
  2. Students saw their scholarships to study abroad cancelled
  3. Civil service positions are frozen
  4. Graduates are not getting jobs

“When you have a government that robs and steals, how do you expect it to take care of the people and country? It can’t do it,” she said.

As a consequence of the 1MDB scandal, Nurul Izzah said salaries were low, and job opportunities were scarce.

She urged the folks to think why former prime minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad, (former deputy prime minister) Muhyiddin Yassin and (former Kedah menteri besar) Mukhriz Mahathir left Umno.
