WP’s Abdul Muhaimin addresses problem at Compassvale, Raeesah Khan’s old ward, for the first time

SINGAPORE: As further proof that the Workers’ Party (WP) has made its choice to complete the four-person slate at Sengkang Group Representation Constituency (GRC), Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik, for the first time earlier this week, addressed a specific issue at Compassvale, the ward that former Sengkang MP Raeesah Khan used to represent in Parliament.

Mr Abdul Muhaimin has been seen more and more with Sengkang Members of Parliament (MPs) He Ting Ru, Louis Chua, and Jamus Lim, as well as with other WP stalwarts, including party chief Pritam Singh, vice-chair Faisal Manap, and Hougang MP Dennis Tan.

He recently opened dedicated accounts on Instagram and Facebook, where his posts have been related to politics and current events, giving Singaporeans an opportunity to get to know him, including a March 31 video where he answered three questions about Ramadan.

In his latest Instagram post on Wednesday (April 2), he wrote about how some residents from Compassvale have shared with him about the estate’s lift issues.

“Lifts are a crucial mode of vertical transport in Singapore, especially for our elderly,” he wrote. “Having managed lifts in Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC) since 2015, I understand what it takes to keep them running safely and reliably.”

Mr Abdul Muhaimin added that he told the residents that he would be working closely with the WP team at Sengkang to address these specific challenges.

“Asking the right questions, listening closely, and pushing for lasting fixes — that’s how we lift #SengkangGRC up, together,” he added.

Mr Abdul Muhaimin graduated from Nanyang Technological University, where he studied mechanical engineering. According to his LinkedIn biography, he is currently a senior property manager for AHTC. Earlier, he was a platoon commander with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

He referenced this as well in another Instagram post, sharing a screenshot from CNA about the 80-member Operation Lionheart rescue team the SCDF deployed to Myanmar after the Mar 28 earthquake.

“Amid the loss, the resilience and unity of the people are a powerful reminder of the strength found in community. As an NSman of the SCDF, my thoughts and prayers are with those affected and with the brave men and women who have responded to the call of duty. Together, I stand with you in hope and solidarity,” he wrote.

The possibility of Mr Abdul Muhaimin completing the WP’s team at Sengkang has been greeted positively by commenters online, many of whom are residents who express satisfaction with how the WP has managed the wards, especially since they were at a disadvantage after Ms Khan stepped down.

A Facebook user wrote, “Aimin will definitely be a wonderful addition to the WP Sengkang team.”

One commenter opined, “Whether you are WP or PAP (People’s Action Party) supporter, you have to admit they are doing a very good job there with limited resources. This is called dedication.”

“I stay in Sengkang, and I can see that the WP team has been working really hard to help us Sengkang residents. I always see them doing house visits every day and also organizing activities with us, like the River Run together,” another chimed in.

One pointed out, “After the Sengkang Town Council took over, the faulty lifts were finally fixed.”

Another commented, “Sengkang GRC will remain with Workers Party in coming elections. They have taken care and looked after their constituents well. Trust my judgement and all best wishes to WP team.”
