92-year-old Singaporean, Goh Gwek Eng, is not only the oldest employee of McDonald’s in Singapore, she may be the oldest employee in the world of the US-based global burger chain company.
Madam Goh has lived through the occupation of Singapore by Japanese forces in the 1940s. She has 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. As most of them are now working, she was beset with boredom. Her granddaughter found her the job at McDonald’s which is 20 minutes away from where she lived.
Madam Goh told The Straits Times which interviewed her, “I plan to keep working for as long as I am healthy.”
She has been working at the Bedok Interchange McDonald’s since 1998 and admits that her job may be repetitive and physically draining. “My colleagues help me when they see me carrying heavy things or when I can’t keep up with orders,” she said.
Madam Goh does complain that she gets a little hot standing near the oil where fries are made, but she also enjoys working at the fast-food chain as it keeps her active.
