Chairman of the Workers’ Party has confirmed that the opposition party will not contest the coming by-election in Bukit Batok. Ms Lim is also the MP for Aljunied GRC.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced the by-electon when the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Batok, David Ong, tendered his resignation. Mr Ong resigned from the post and from the People’s Action Party for having an extra-marital affair with his Women’s Wing member, Wendy Lim.
Even with WP’s withdrawal from the race, a multi party contest is shaping up in Bukit Batok. Singapore Democratic Party, Democratic People’s Party and an independent candidate have expressed their interest to contest the coming by-election in that constituency.
