Opposition Party agrees with gov't – students should clean schools

The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) has said that it supports Ministry of Education’s initiative to get students to clean their school premises. “The move will help to instill a sense of responsibility in students for the environment,” the opposition party said.
The political party however asked the Ministry to set up guidelines on what the students are and are not required to perform. SDP said that the school syllabus should be reduced in tandem with the new routine introduced in public schools.
That will “enable students greater opportunity to engage in collaborative and interactive activities that will facilitate creative learning,” Ms Wong Souk Yee, Chairperson of SDP, said.
“Already, students are given a tremendous amount of classroom work. On top of this, they have to undertake Co-Curricular Activities which add to their already full day causing many of them to return home late in the day. Students should not be burdened with an even more strenuous day,” Ms Wong added.
