Stage 4 lung cancer patient accuses hospital of negligence, taking them to court

Stage-4 lung cancer patient Noor Azlin Adul Rahman, 36, is seeking damages from Changi General Hospital (CGH). She alleges that she would not be terminally ill if CGH and 3 of its doctors had not misdiagnosed the shadow in her lung from 2007 to 2012.
A chest X-ray taken in 2007 showed a small spot on her lung, but the hospital  failed to follow up on it she claims. Then, in late 2011 and 2012 several tests showed that Azlin had a tumour.
Azlin’s life may be prolonged by a decade due to the experimental treatment she has been receiving since last January.
CGH disputed Azlin’s claims saying that there was no clinical indication for a report on the findings of the chest X-ray done in 2007, and no lung lesion was found on repeat chest X-rays done a month later.
A CGH spokesman said: “CGH empathises with Ms Noor Azlin Abdul Rahman, and remains open to discussion on how we can support her while she undergoes treatment and recovery. However, we reject the allegations… that the hospital was negligent in her care.”
Azlin has commenced legal actions in the High Court of Singapore against the hospital and the 3 doctors to recover her losses and damages.
“The legal case is taking much longer than expected, and the hospital and its insurance company, and the Medical Protection Society which is defending the 3 doctors, are contesting my claims vigorously,” she said.
She accused them of hoping to deplete her remaining resources and energy by the drawn out court case.
“I am in desperate need of funds to fight my case. I do not have much time left,” she added in appealing to the goodwill of well-wishers and sympathisers who want to support her cause.
