Lalamove ‘walker’ reportedly goes missing immediately after collecting $3,000 worth of mobile phones from store

OnePhone, a phone shop on Race Course Road, said in a Nov 6 Facebook post that over $3000 worth of new mobile phones had gone missing after the Lalamove ‘walker’ who had collected them for delivery to customers could no longer be contacted.

OnePhone said that the Lalamove ‘walker’, whose name is displayed in a screenshot as Edmund Cheang Kwang Yu “has been missing immediately after (collecting the phones). His mobile phone number says as ‘not in service’.”

The post also included photos of the ‘walker’ while he had been in the store. Messages to his profile on Lalamove are not delivered,” it added.

When OnePhone reached out to the company, Lalamove could not track the ‘walker’ either. Compensation for the missing phones will only be around $200, which is far less than their value.

OnePhone will be filing a police report and added that “Lalamove can’t even provide the vehicle number, as he is registered as a walker. We wonder how they can assign a walker for 5 deliveries with a total of around 40km.”

OnePhone appealed to anyone who may have information about Edmund Cheang Kwang Yu, asking to send a message via WhatsApp at 85111646.

“And be careful when you send goods using lalamove in future, especially if it’s high valued items,” OnePhone added.

The owner of OnePhone, Mr Shijin Jawahar Sait, told AsiaOne, that after the Lalamove courier went missing, he himself delivered new mobile phones to the customers who had ordered them, so they would not be unnecessarily affected by Edmund Cheang’s misdeed.

Mr Shijin told AsiaOne that the missing phones include Samsung and Oppo units. One mobile phone is a Samsung S22+ and is worth around $1,000.

Netizens commenting on OnePhone’s post were shocked by what the courier had done and expressed the hope that he will get caught.

Others, however, asked that Lalamove not be judged harshly.
