An online user has asked the public for advice given their situation, trying to decide what kind of residential property to buy. While the couple wants to buy Build-to-Order (BTO) housing, their parents want them to buy an executive condominium.

The individual on Wednesday (Oct 19) turned to the public for advice on a major life decision they and their fiancé need to make. The post began with the couple’s intention to purchase residential property. “However, BTO (properties) are really tough to get and we’re trying to participate every time we get the opportunity to,” they wrote, “So we are adamant about getting a BTO because it’s like a dream home to us.”

Then comes the issue. The post specified that the couple’s parents want them to instead buy an executive condominium and that they would loan the soon-to-be-newlyweds money for the investment. However, the post reads, “(My fiancé doesn’t want to borrow any money from any side of the parents as he wants to buy it with (our) own money. And to avoid the repercussions of the parents using the loan as a tool in the future to gain control over something.”

The individual added, “Brought the issue up to the parents and they think that we ‘don’t want’ their money. They were pissed about it.”

Admitting that they feel caught between both sides, the writer asked the public for advice.

Many users on the online forum sided with the couple, reminding them that the big decision is ultimately theirs. Others encouraged them to purchase what they could afford in order to avoid any instances where their parents could hold the loan as water over the couple’s heads.
