A tenant who had a terrible experience with his landlord asked other netizens for help with what to do.
In a post to public Facebook group Indians In Singapore, the tenant wrote about his “Terrible experience with my landlord”.
In his post on Tuesday (Sept 13), the man wrote that he stayed in a “6×7 room with single bed and no Aircon”. He added that before he placed a deposit, the landlord told him that utilities were included in the rent and that light cooking was allowed.
However, after he moved in, the landlord was “questioning why I am working at night. Why your light is on till 4AM”.
He added that the landlord did not even allow him to heat up milk or make tea.
“He is checking even how many times I am using rest room. Having a nightmare. Pls advise”, the netizen wrote.
Responding to his post, others asked if he had a contract in place. They urged him to move out and if possible to complain to the authorities. Here’s what they said:
Earlier this year, a woman from China and her son, say they were deliberately locked out of their rented flat in Yishun just days after moving in.
The tenant, Ms Yu, 51, said that she and her 14-year-old son were forced to spend the night in the stairwell of HDB Block 733. That happened, although she had signed a one-year lease on the four-bedroom flat in Yishun Avenue 5.
Her son is studying here and Ms Yu is also here to care for him.
She told the Chinese-language Shin Min Daily News that the landlord left her a note on Wednesday (April 6) telling her to move out by the following day.
Her $2,600-per-month lease on the four-bedroom unit was to start on April 1, but she said that the landlord agreed to let them move in by Mar 20.
So she said she was surprised to find out on the morning of April 6 that the owner had the electricity and water cut off, and left her a handwritten note telling her and her son, “Move out of this unit before April 7th. If you don’t do it, you will be at your own risk.”
