Flyer in Malaysia seen hiring staff for Changi Airport, netizen says “Even SG organisations prefer to hire foreigners than S’poreans”

A flyer in Malaysia that was spotted hiring for Changi Airport drew many negative comments from Singaporeans, who were worried that even local organisations preferred to hire foreigners over homegrown talents.

In a post to public group Umbrage Singapore, a netizen by the name of Gordon Liew wrote: “Even SG organizations prefer to hire foreigners than SGians. This is caring for SGians”.

Along with his post, he shared the photo of a recruitment poster for Changi Airport. It was looking to hire sales assistants or customer service specialists.

They would only have to work four days a week and earn a salary of S$3,000+ or RM 10,000. Interviews were held at Holiday Inn Hotel in Johor Bahru.

Netizens who commented on the post wondered why locals were not hired and why the hiring was not done in Singapore.

Here’s what they said:

  1. What were the job positions listed?
  2. Is it true that Changi Airport is actively hiring Malaysians in Malaysia? Why so?
  3. Was there hiring done in Singapore for the same positions?
  4. Does Changi Airport have anything else to add on the matter?

Responding, CAG said that the recruitment was on behalf of agencies and vendors with operations in Changi Airport. CAG added that it is not the hiring company and hence declined to comment.

Last week, a young graduate took to social media after getting worried that they were being lowballed on the salary offered for a new job.

In an anonymous post to popular confessions page SGWhispers, the netizen who had graduated from a private university asked if being offered S$3,000 for an office-based executive job was considered to be low pay, especially taking into consideration today’s market and inflation. /TISG
