Staycation turns into nightmare when shower glass door falls & shatters on woman, cuts across her body, at Siloso Beach Resort

What began as a staycation for her daughter’s birthday ended with a hospital visit for Ms Suziyana Hamid after the hotel’s glass shower door fell on her.

Following a day of celebrations at Sentosa for her 12-year-old daughter, Ms Suziyana, 41, returned to their hotel room in Siloso Beach Resort on June 16.

As she pulled the glass shower door, it detached from its hinges. Ms Suziyana immediately shielded herself with her arms as the glass shattered.

The shards left cuts on her arms, hands, chest and scalp, reported The Straits Times on Thursday (June 23).

Ms Suziyana’s daughter rushed to her mother and tried consoling her. “When she saw me crying, she said, ‘Ibu (mother), it’s okay, you are okay.”

Ms Suziyana was taken to Singapore General Hospital for medical assistance. Doctors and nurses retrieved the glass pieces from her body with tweezers.

It was reported that she was given two days of medical leave.

ST noted that the hotel declined to comment on the incident, although Sentosa Development Corporation, the hotel’s landlord and overseer of the resort island, said it would be looking into what happened.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed the incident at Siloso Beach Resort at about 4:30 am on June 16.

Ms Suziyana said that the hotel had not contacted them since she was discharged from the hospital.

The police are not investigating the incident, added ST.

Netizen Shahfii Ali shared the incident on Facebook to raise awareness. “Service recovery gone wild. The woman in the article is family,” she added.

Facebook user Ana Maswari commented, “We stayed there last month. It’s super old ah. Time to upgrade already.” /TISG
