A woman felt embarrassed in front of her relatives from Singapore after the owner of the restaurant they ate in insulted her for not having enough money to order more than an omelette. Facebook user SisYana Lashes shared their experience on June 8 while eating at Restoran 35 in Malacca, Malaysia. Ms SisYana noted they had arrived at the restaurant at around 2 pm, their group consisting of immediate family and relatives from Singapore.

Since it was already past lunchtime, many of the dishes at the restaurant were sold out. After confirming the items on display were the only ones available, Ms SisYana ordered everything that was left. She soon overheard the owner commenting, “Look at what time you came. Even if we served an elephant, it would be gone by now.”

The Facebook post of one mum, whose toddler was given a balloon by an agent from insurance company AIA only for it to be taken away after the mum was deemed by the agent not to be a potential client, has gone viral. She was at Century Square with her 2-year-old daughter when a woman came over with a penguin ballon. When the woman asked the little girl if she wanted one, she said yes.

“Of course this would delight a 2 year old,” Ms Nazreen wrote, adding she was aware that the woman had come from an AIA booth. “While standing she asked me a few questions and I apparently do not fit the profile for a potential customer so she said sorry I need to take back the balloon and she took it from my daughter’s hand. Imagine my horror??!!”

A coffeeshop at Block 201 Tampines Street 21 was sold for a record S$41,682,168, the transaction scheduled to be completed in July. Stallholders in the venue confirmed that their rent has increased since the coffeeshop changed owners two months ago. According to 8World, the property’s caveat, a legal document to protect property buyers’ interests in a sale, was lodged in April.

The 604sq m property, with 76 years left on its lease, has 18 stalls and is the biggest coffeeshop along Tampines Street 21. A hawker told 8World that in the 23 years of operations there, the previous landlord didn’t “significantly” increase rentals. However, the new owner announced that her rent would increase from S$6,000 to S$10,000, excluding other charges and miscellaneous fees.
