‘I am A-OKAY now’: Sharon Au thanks ‘network of S’poreans’ for reaching out after Paris robbery that took ‘everything’ from her

In her latest post on May 30, Sharon Au assured followers that she is “A-OKAY now,” thanks in part to the generous outpouring of love and support she received from her countrymen and women.

On April 30, Sharon Au’s Paris apartment was broken into, and the former actress wrote in an Instagram post that the thieves “took everything” from her.

The robbery left Sharon Au badly shaken and she even suffered from nightmares because of it. And although she sought help from the Paris police, she was told that they were “too busy” and “had bigger crimes to solve.”

Toward the end of May, she shared over IG that she was beginning to practice self-care again “to expedite the healing.”

Fellow Singaporeans travelling to Paris have been reaching out to ask her what she needs “offering to bring me anything I needed from Singapore. From comfort food bak cho mee and chwee kueh to home appliances ( one asked do you still have a fridge?)”

On Monday (May 30), she posted a photo of herself with a group of Singaporeans whom she met by chance on the street “who moved me with their warmth and love, at a time when I was feeling the lowest.”

Ms Au also thanked them for sending her the photo.

“I now see for myself, that when trauma strikes, there is a network of Singaporeans who would come forth to save and to comfort you.

I want to thank you. And to tell you I am A-OKAY now. Maybe not completely but I will learn from this lesson. It was a horrifying situation, but worse could have happened. Rudon and I are truly lucky to be alive.”

The multi-awarded former MediaCorp actress has been working as an investment director in a private equity firm in France since 2018. However, after the burglary, she has since resigned from her job.

Posting a photo of herself holding Rudon on May 12, Ms Au wrote, “My apartment was broken into 11 days ago. 30 April 2022. They took everything I love. I have nothing now.”

Fortunately, Rudon, whom she described as “the love of my life, the one thing that money cannot buy” is all right, although she wrote that he is still “traumatised by the invasion.  Even the slightest sound startles him now,” she added.

Ms Au managed to find a silver lining amid her difficulties, writing, “I thank God that he is safe, unhurt, and did not run away. He waited for me to come home.”

Nevertheless, she wrote that it took her “11 days to pen this note, without crying. Starting from zero. Again. This is life,” she added, heartbreakingly.

On Vesak Day, the former actress shared that her nightmares “seem to be telling me ‘Keep searching, and you will find your way out.’”
